Google lets you tell Discover what you want: AI enters your feed.

Google is adding ways to personalize Search, Discover and Google News. The most striking news: being able to adjust the feed with your own words, almost like talking to a chatbot.

Contrasted sources

Google Blog Published the update on 20/08/2026. The Verge Focused on feed adjusted by chatbot highlighted.

What changes

Google will allow users to request the feed to show more or less topics, links, or types of content. It also promotes the preferred sources button so readers can see more content from specific publications.

Why matters

If it works well, the feed stops being a black box and approaches a mix between a search engine, a recommender, and an editorial assistant. For small media and blogs, preferred sources can be a way not to get lost among automated summaries.

What to monitor

More personalization does not always mean more diversity. It's convenient to check if the user has real control or if it just reinforces even more what the algorithm already thinks it wants to see.
